Catherine Lowe

Gender: Female

Catherine is our clinical pharmacist and uses her vast experience to review medications - particularly pain relief and pain management - and provides help and support to staff and patients.

Catherine is employed by South West Shropshire Primary Care Network 2 days a week, which is when she is here at Station Drive Surgery, and she also works as a practice pharmacist for Bishops Castle Medical Practice 2 days per week.  She started work with the network in December 2019 and has supported all the practices in a variety of ways during the pandemic.  In January 2021 she helped to set up the COVID vaccination centre at Church Stretton.

Catherine is interested in prescribing for older people and this led her to do a PhD and become a researcher at Leeds University.  The findings of that research are now widely accepted within the profession.  She enjoys working with patients and is supporting practices to review the medicines of their older patients.

The other area of work that Catherine is involved with is reviewing patients who take opiates for long term pain.

She is a great believer in improving patient care through team work and is looking forward to developing the network over the coming years.
